Software I built and run every day

Six projects, all in production. For each one: the problem, what I built, and the results I can back with logs. Most of them now power products at DatPilot.

01

Web data crawler and API

Architecture, backend, operations

Production

The problem

My websites needed fresh product data every day, and a paid scraping API was getting expensive while telling me little about why requests failed.

What I built

  • Vendor-compatible request and response format, so switching was a URL change
  • Per-route pacing, cooldowns, retries, and a total time budget below the CDN timeout
  • Content-based block detection, since some block pages return HTTP 200
  • Pass-rate tracking per route and page type, and merging of duplicate in-flight requests
02

DatPilot Portal

Product, full-stack, design

Live

The problem

Small Vietnamese businesses run WordPress sites with real problems, slow pages, outdated plugins, missing legal pages, and no easy way to see them or get them fixed at a fair price.

What I built

  • Accounts, prepaid wallet, orders, licenses, and an admin back office
  • A free inspector with 51 checks in 4 groups and an A to F grade
  • Lighthouse runs, mobile screenshots, filmstrip, and print-ready PDF reports
  • Auto-generated share images for every page and report
  • The DatPilot Data API with prepaid packages and automatic refunds for failed requests
03

AffShelf theme and plugin

WordPress development

In production

The problem

A commercial plugin license capped me at 10 sites, and I only used a small slice of its features.

What I built

  • Data-compatible plugin: same product table and shortcodes, written from scratch
  • WP-CLI commands for add, fetch, refresh, list, settings, and import
  • Parent theme plus child starter with FAQ schema, breadcrumbs, and a guides hub
  • A one-command site setup script
04

Content operations pipeline

Automation, QA

Internal

The problem

Running 8 niche websites alone is impossible if every article and every check is manual.

What I built

  • Keyword plans per site, with thin topics skipped automatically
  • Product selection by code with explicit thresholds
  • Model drafting from research files only, then a review pass
  • A 17-point audit on the live HTML of every article, every night
  • A Telegram bot that reports three times a day and alerts only on real incidents
05

Automated tech news digest

Automation, media

Live

The problem

A brand page needs consistent, fast, accurate content, and producing a narrated video twice a day by hand is not realistic for one person.

What I built

  • Collection from 22 sources, with an AI editor and a source cross-check pass
  • Market numbers and sentences generated by code, not by the model
  • HTML and CSS scenes captured frame by frame in headless Chrome
  • Local Vietnamese text-to-speech with a cloud fallback, and karaoke captions
  • ffmpeg assembly with transitions and generated sound effects
06

Self-hosted infrastructure

DevOps

Production

The problem

Many small sites and apps need to be cheap to run, isolated from each other, and safe, without a full-time ops person.

What I built

  • Four containers per WordPress site: nginx, PHP-FPM, MariaDB, and Redis
  • A single reverse proxy as the only public entry point
  • Memory, CPU, and privilege limits on every container
  • Nightly checks for new admins, PHP in uploads, exposed endpoints, and expiring certificates
